Purpose of this Web Site

When we first moved to The Wilderness, my wife and I met a couple who were trying to figure out a way to get the community involved in a discussion on a big sore spot regarding the identity of our neighborhood. When they moved, their grassroots effort faded away. If you haven't guessed yet, the sore spot in question was our sign at the entrance to the subdivision. I do some web consulting in my spare time, so I thought, why not build a web site where people could discuss this issue?

Back to the sign - it was in very poor condition, and getting worse by the day. Upon close inspection, you could see just how bad it was. It was obvious that it was not built to last. But what could be done? Who was responsible for either repairing or rebuilding it? Who would do the work? How much would it cost, and how would it be paid for? Would the city help? Is the sign on city property? Who would be the correct city department to call?

So, in order to facilitate discussion, this web site was built and included a forum where questions like these could be discussed. This effort quickly paid off as over 100 homes in a subdivision with no association came together to raise the funds necessary to build a new sign. Multiple quotes were solicited and obtained from local sign builders. The existing brick monument was pressure washed, the boxwood hedges were neatly trimmed, and a landscape design was created and implemented. All this work was completed by volunteers from the neighborhood. After all, the sign is the first impression that people get when visiting friends or relatives, or are looking for a new place to call home. Many thanks go out to the people who made sure it would be a good one.
